It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Abu Abs bin Jabr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) invited the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to a meal that he had prepared for them. On this occasion the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take off your shoes at the time of eating, for it is an excellent sunnah (practice)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "very weak". Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it, Yahya bin al-'Ala' al-Razi and his shaykh Musa bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Taymi are both "matruk" (abandoned), as al-Dhahabi stated explicitly in "al-Talkhis". Although two further narrations corroborate them, they are not reliable (la yufrah bihima). Important point: Muhammad bin Ayyub is "Ibn Yahya bin al-Durays al-Razi". Reference / Source: This narration will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at no. (7307) via 'Uqbah bin Khalid from Musa bin Muhammad. Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (7567), and Abu Ya'la in his "Musnad" (4188) and "Mu'jam" (302), narrated it via Dawud bin al-Zibriqan with the wording: "When food is brought to one of you while he is wearing sandals, let him take off his sandals, for it is more restful for the feet". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Dawud bin al-Zibriqan is "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned in hadith). Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Tarikh Asbahan" (1/ 230) via Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi is "very weak", and according to several imams he used to "steal hadith" (sariqat al-hadith), while the narrator "al-Haytham" in it is not known (la yu'raf). Grading: This statement is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas in Imam al-Bukhari's "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (1190), Abu Dawud (4138) and others: "It is of the Sunnah that when a man sits down, he takes off his sandals and places them beside him". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain contains a narrator who is "unknown" (majhul).
