(5). Maymun bin Zayd bin Abi Abs narrates from his father that Abu Abs (may Allah be pleased with him) used to offer the prayers with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and then return to (his neighbourhood of) Banu Harithah. One dark and rainy night he set out, and light was made for him in his staff, until he reached the quarter of Banu Harithah.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The text between the square brackets [ ] dropped out of the manuscripts; we have completed it from the narration in Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (6/ 78), transmitted with this same chain of al-Hakim.
Grading: Its chain is weak (da'if). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Maymun bin Zayd bin Abi 'Abs is an "unknown" (majhul) narrator, and Abd al-Hamid (whose better-known name is Abd al-Majid) was described by Imam Abu Hatim al-Razi as "layyin" (soft, i.e. weak). (5343). Reference / Source: The story of the staff lighting up (a miracle) for other Companions has passed earlier at no. (5343).
