قال ابن عُمر: فحدثني عبد الحَمِيد بن أبي عَبْس من ولد أبي عَبْس بن جَبْر، قال: مات أبو عَبْس سنة أربع وثلاثين، وهو ابن سبعين سنة، وصلَّى عليه عثمانُ، ونزل في قبره أبو بُردة بن نِيَارٍ وقَتَادة بن النُّعمان و محمد بن مَسْلَمة وسَلَمة بن سَلَامة بن وَقْشٍ (3).
Muhammad bin Umar states that Abd al-Hamid bin Abi Abs, from the descendants of Abu Abs bin Jabr, told me that Abu Abs (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year thirty-four (34) AH, and at that time he was seventy years old. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer, and Abu Burdah bin Niyar, Qatadah bin al-Nu'man, Muhammad bin Maslamah and Salamah bin Salamah bin Waqsh (may Allah be pleased with them) went down into his grave (to lower him).

(3) وهو في "طبقات ابن سعد" 3/ 416 عن محمد بن عمر الواقدي قال: حدثني عبد المجيد بن أبي عبس من ولد أبي عَبْس … فذكره. هكذا سمى شيخه عبد المجيد بدل عبد الحميد، وهذا هو المشهور في اسمه كما تقدم بيانه برقم (5180).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration is in "Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd" (3/ 416) via Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi, where he named his shaykh "Abd al-Majid bin Abi 'Abs" instead of "Abd al-Hamid", and this is the better-known form of his name, as explained earlier at no. (5180).
