حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا الحُسين بن محمد بن زياد، حدثنا عبد الله بن الرُّومي، حدثنا النضر بن محمد، حدثنا عِكْرمة بن عمّار، عن أبي زُمَيل سِماك بن الوليد، عن مالك بن مَرثَد، عن أبيه، عن أبي ذرٍّ، قال: كنت ربُعَ الإسلام: أسلمَ قبلي ثلاثةُ نفرٍ وأنا الرابعُ، أتيتُ النبيَّ ﷺ فقلتُ: السلامُ عليك يا رسولَ الله، أشهدُ أن لا إله إلَّا الله، وأنَّ محمدًا عبدُه ورسولُه، فرأيتُ الاستِبْشار في وجهِ رسول الله ﷺ (1).

Malik bin Marthad narrates from his father, who narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: "I was a quarter of Islam; three people accepted Islam before me and I was the fourth. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Peace be upon you. I bear witness that there is no true god except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger. (On hearing this) I saw signs of joy and delight on the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(1) إسناده محتمل للتحسين من أجل مَرْثَد - وهو ابن عبد الله الزِّمَاني ويقال: الذِّماري - فهو وإن لم يرو عنه غير ابنه مالك، تابعيٌّ ذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات" وصحَّح حديثه، ووثقه العجلي، وحسَّن الترمذيُّ له حديثَين، وصحَّح له ابن خزيمة حديثًا.
Grading: (1) This chain can possibly be graded hasan, on account of Marthad.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Marthad (Ibn Abd Allah al-Zimani, also called al-Dhimari): although no one narrated from him except his son Malik, he is a Successor; Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" and graded his hadith sahih, al-'Ijli declared him trustworthy, al-Tirmidhi graded two of his hadith hasan, and Ibn Khuzaymah graded one of his hadith sahih.
وأخرجه ابن حبان (7134) عن أحمد بن الحسين بن عبد الجبار، عن عبد الله بن الرومي، بهذا الإسناد.
