Malik bin Marthad narrates from his father, who narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The dusty earth has not carried, nor has the green sky shaded, anyone more truthful of tongue or more faithful to his word than Abu Dharr; he resembles Isa bin Maryam." On hearing this Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Shall we acknowledge this rank for him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, recognise this rank for him."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr and Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with them). The hadith of Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) is as follows:

Grading: (2) This chain can possibly be graded hasan, like the previous one. Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tirmidhi (3802) and Ibn Hibban (7132) through the route of al-'Abbas bin Abd al-'Azim, with this chain. Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said: "This hadith is hasan gharib from this route." Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Hibban (7135) through the route of Abu Dawud Sulayman bin Ma'bad al-Sinji, from al-Nadr bin Muhammad. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Apart from the story of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), it is supported by the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) with Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" (4/ 214), Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 125), al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa' al-Kabir" (1138) and Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (1555). It is narrated from Abu Hurayrah through two routes, both of which have been criticised, but each strengthens the other. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is the mursal narration of Malik bin Dinar with Ibn Sa'd (4/ 214), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which of you will meet me in the state in which I leave him?" Abu Dharr said: "I." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You have spoken the truth." Then he said: "The green (sky) has not shaded, nor has the dusty (earth) carried, anyone more truthful of tongue than Abu Dharr. Whoever would be pleased to look at the asceticism of 'Isa bin Maryam, let him look at Abu Dharr." Grading: Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy). Whoever would be pleased to look at the asceticism of 'Isa bin Maryam, let him look at Abu Dharr." Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy). Note / Clarification: For the truthfulness of the tongue of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari on its own there are two supporting reports, from the hadith of Abd Allah bin 'Amr bin al-'As and of Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with them), which will come after this. (6414). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A third is from the hadith of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), which will come under number (6414). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A fourth is from the hadith of Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come under number (8688). Grading: The chains of all four are weak. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A fifth is the mursal narration of Muhammad bin Sirin with Ibn Sa'd in his "Tabaqat" (4/ 214). Grading: Its narrators are "la ba'sa bihim" (there is no harm in them). So the hadith is "hasan" by virtue of its supporting reports. Note / Clarification: "Al-khadra'": the sky; and "al-ghabra'": the earth.
