It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out (on a journey) in the season of intense heat and camped at a place. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to take a bath, and Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) screened him (peace and blessings be upon him) with a woollen sheet. Sahl says: I looked at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from one side of the sheet; he (peace and blessings be upon him) had raised his blessed head towards the sky and was supplicating: 'Allahumma-stur al-Abbasa wa waladahu min an-nar' (O Allah, screen al-Abbas and his children from the Fire (of Hell)).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of transmission, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is entirely weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is "Isma'il bin Qays bin Sa'd bin Zayd bin Thabit", who is a weak narrator and "munkar al-hadith". Although a man corroborated him, he too is like him (weak), so his corroboration carries no weight.

Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn 'Asakir (26/ 306) via Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Abi Mulaykah, from Abu Hazim.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although Imam Ahmad and Abu Zur'ah expressed a good opinion of the narrator Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman, the majority of hadith scholars declared him weak; indeed Imam al-Bukhari said of him that he is "munkar al-hadith".
Note / Clarification: The word "al-qayz" refers to the season of intense heat.
