It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When Safwan bin Umayyah bin Khalaf al-Jumahi came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "O Abu Wahb, with whom are you staying?" He said: With al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are staying with the man of Quraysh who loves Quraysh the most."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of transmission, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) The text from this hadith up to hadith number (5507) has dropped out of manuscript (S) and manuscript (M).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) In manuscript (Z) the word "'an" has dropped out, which gives the false impression that Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Harithah bin al-Nu'man narrates this report directly from his grandfather, whereas in fact Ishaq narrates this report from his father Ibrahim, from his grandfather Abdullah bin Harithah, as in all the other sources that reference this report.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) In manuscript (Z) the name came as "Safwan bin Khalaf bin Umayyah", which is inverted, because the correct name is "Safwan bin Umayyah bin Khalaf".
Note / Clarification: His father Umayyah bin Khalaf was one of the chiefs of Quraysh, who was killed as a polytheist on the day of Badr after Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) had taken him captive.
Note / Clarification: In al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" this name appears in its correct form.

Grading: (4) Its chain is da'if.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The cause of weakness is the unknown status of Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Harithah, and likewise the unknown status of his father. Also the narrator Muhammad bin Talhah (who is Ibn Abd al-Rahman bin Talhah bin Abdullah al-Taymi) is not strong in hadith (laysa bi-dhaka).

Details of the narration: It was narrated by 'Umar bin Shabbah in "Tarikh al-Madinah" (2/ 483), al-Baladhuri in "Ansab al-Ashraf" (4/ 25), al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna" (496), Ibn Qani' (2/ 118), al-Tabarani (14913) and Ibn 'Asakir (26/ 338-339) via Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir al-Hizami, and by Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (4087) via Muhammad bin Ishaq al-Balkhi. Both these narrators (Ibrahim and Muhammad) narrate it from Muhammad bin Talhah al-Taymi.
