(3). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Uqbah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: In my view there is no one more knowledgeable of what Allah Almighty revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) than Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Then Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If you say that, then indeed he used to hear (the words of the Prophet) when we did not hear, and he used to enter (into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) when we were not permitted to enter."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) The mention of "Abu al-Ahwas" has dropped out of the chain of this report in the manuscripts, whereas it is present in al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (8495) in his narration from Muhammad bin Ahmad bin al-Nadr (who here is the shaykh of the author's shaykh). It is also present with all the narrators who narrated this report from al-A'mash. (Abu al-Ahwas is 'Awf bin Malik al-Jushami.)
Grading: (3) Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): (Identification of narrators): Za'idah is "Ibn Qudamah", al-A'mash is "Sulayman bin Mihran", and Malik bin al-Harith is "al-Sulami al-Kufi". Reference / Source: Muslim (2461) and al-Nasa'i (8203) narrated it similarly by way of Qutbah bin 'Abd al-'Aziz; and Muslim (2461) by way of Shayban bin 'Abd al-Rahman. Both of them narrate it from al-A'mash, from Malik bin al-Harith, from Abu al-Ahwas, who said: "We were in the house of Abu Musa with some of the companions of 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud)" (then he mentioned the report similarly). Muslim (2461) also narrated it in abridged form by way of Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, from Abu al-Ahwas. Reference / Source: Muslim (2461) also narrated it similarly by way of Abu 'Ubaydah 'Abd al-Malik bin Ma'n al-Mas'udi, from al-A'mash, from Zayd bin Wahb, who said: "We were sitting with Hudhayfah and Abu Musa in the mosque." Muslim did not quote its wording and said: "The hadith of Qutbah is more complete and more detailed."
