كتاب معرفة الصحابة رضي الله تعالى عنهم
Book of Knowing the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)
كَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ صَاحِبَ سِرِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was the keeper of the secrets of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)

حدثني علي بن حَمْشاذَ العدل، حدَّثنا موسى بن هارون، حدَّثنا مصعب بن عبد الله الزُّبيري، عن أبيه، قال: أمُّ عبد الله بن مسعودٍ: أمُّ عبدٍ بنت عبد بن الحارث بن زُهرة (1).
Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri narrates from his father that the mother of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was Umm Abd bint Abd bin al-Harith bin Zuhrah.

(1) وكذلك قال في نسبها إبراهيم النخعي كما سيأتي برقم (5452)، وخليفة بن خياط في "الطبقات" ص 16، وغيرهما، وقال أبو نعيم في معرفة الصحابة (4471): هو الأثبتُ.
Note / Clarification: (1) Ibrahim al-Nakha'i also said the same about her lineage (as will come at number 5452), and Khalifah bin Khayyat wrote the same in "al-Tabaqat" (p. 16). Abu Nu'aym said in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (4471): "This is the better established view."
وخالفهم غيرهم فنسبوها هُذَليَّة، منهم ابن سعد 3/ 139.
Note / Clarification: Others differed from them (the historians) and attributed this woman to the tribe of "Hudhayl" (that she was a Hudhali); among those who differed is Ibn Sa'd (al-Tabaqat: 3/ 139).
