Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was the keeper of the secrets of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)

أخبرني أحمد بن يعقوب الثقفي، حدَّثنا محمد بن عبد الله الحضرمي، حدَّثنا أبو كُريب، حدَّثنا عُبيد الله بن موسى، عن سُليمان بن أبي سُليمان، عن أبي هاشم، عن إبراهيم، عن عَلْقمة، عن عبد الله بن مسعود: أنَّ النبي: النبي ﷺ كناه أبا عبد الرحمن ولم يُولَد له (2).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the kunyah "Abu Abd al-Rahman" although at that time no child had yet been born to him.

(2) إسناده واهٍ من أجل سليمان بن أبي سليمان - وهو الخُوزي القافلائي - ولم يُصب الحافظ ابن حجر ﵀ في "فتح الباري" 18/ 628 إذ صحَّح إسناد هذا الخبر، ذاهلًا عن سليمان القافلائي هذا. أبو كُريب: هو محمد بن العلاء الهَمْداني، وأبو هاشم: هو الرُّماني الواسطي، وإبراهيم: هو ابن يزيد النَّخَعي، وعلقمة: هو ابن قيس النَّخَعِي.
Grading: (2) Its chain is "wahin" (very flimsy), the reason being Sulayman bin Abi Sulayman (al-Khuzi al-Qafila'i).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's (may Allah have mercy on him) declaring the chain of this report "sahih" in "Fath al-Bari" (18/ 628) is not correct; he apparently overlooked (the weakness of) this Sulayman al-Qafila'i. (Identification of the other narrators): Abu Kurayb is Muhammad bin al-'Ala' al-Hamdani, Abu Hashim is al-Rummani al-Wasiti, Ibrahim is Ibn Yazid al-Nakha'i, and 'Alqamah is Ibn Qays al-Nakha'i.
وأخرجه الطبراني في "الكبير" (8405)، وعنه أبو نعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (4474) عن محمد بن عبد الله الحضرمي، بهذا الإسناد. وأخرجه البزار (1580)، والعُقيلي في "الضعفاء" (566) من طريق محمد بن عثمان بن كرامة، وأسلم بن سهل الواسطي في "تاريخ واسط" ص 183 عن الحسن بن حماد، كلاهما عن عُبيد الله بن موسى، به وسيأتي برقم (5451) من طريق الخصيب بن ناصح عن سليمان القافلائي.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (8405), and from him by Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (4474), via Muhammad bin 'Abdullah al-Hadrami, with this chain. It was also narrated by al-Bazzar (1580), al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" (566) (by way of Muhammad bin 'Uthman bin Karamah) and Aslam bin Sahl al-Wasiti in "Tarikh Wasit" (p. 183) (by way of al-Hasan bin Hammad). All of them narrate it from 'Ubaydullah bin Musa. It will also come later at number (5451) by way of al-Khasib bin Nasih (from Sulayman al-Qafila'i).
