Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is "sahih", and this particular chain may possibly be "hasan" on account of Umm Bakr bint al-Miswar.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although this chain outwardly appears "mursal" (disconnected), in narrations other than the author's the mention of al-Miswar is present, and Umm Bakr narrates frequently from her father (al-Miswar), so it is apparent that she took this report from her father. Some narrations also support this, where it is stated explicitly: "from Umm Bakr bint al-Miswar, from al-Miswar bin Makhramah", which makes the chain "muttasil" (connected).
General principle: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded this chain "hasan" in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (23241), contrary to al-Dhahabi, who in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" asserted with certainty that it is not connected.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This hadith has another route from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), which will come later at number (5443).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a shahid (supporting report) from the hadith of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), which will come after it, and likewise a shahid from the hadith of Abu Salamah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf, which is coming at number (5442).
Grading: Therefore this hadith, taken as a whole, is "sahih".
Reference / Source: Ahmad (41/ 24724, 25032, 25033) narrated it through two routes from 'Abdullah bin Ja'far al-Makhrami. Those who narrated it with the explicit wording "from Umm Bakr, from al-Miswar" (connected) are: Ibn Sa'd (10/ 200), Ishaq bin Rahawayh in his "Musnad" (1755), Abu Bakr al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" (1789), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (9115), Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (1131), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (1/ 98), "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (478) and "Fada'il al-Khulafa'" (116), and Ibn 'Asakir (35/ 283, 284). All of them narrate it through various routes from 'Abdullah bin Ja'far.
