Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5404

Zirr bin Hubaysh narrates that there was some sharpness and harshness in the temperament of Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this name was corrupted into "al-Hasan"; the correction is from the sources of his biography.

Grading: (2) This report is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of Muhammad bin Kathir al-Kufi (al-Qurashi). Most likely he made an error (wahm) in its chain by making it "from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, from Zirr bin Hubaysh", because what is "mahfuz" (preserved) is that the report belongs to Asim bin Bahdalah (Ibn Abi al-Nujud), from Zirr, as it came in Ahmad (35/ 21200, 21209) and elsewhere. And Asim is "saduq" (truthful).
Note / Clarification: "Abu Ja'far al-Hadrami" is Muhammad bin Abd Allah bin Sulayman, nicknamed "Mutayyan".
