Abu Mushir narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) the title "Sayyid al-Ansar" (leader of the Ansar), and before his death people had begun calling him "Sayyid al-Muslimin" (leader of the Muslims).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (3) "Abu al-Jahm" is Ahmad bin al-Husayn bin Ahmad bin Tallab al-Mashfarani, "Ibrahim bin Ya'qub" is al-Juzajani, and "Abu Mushir" is Abd al-A'la bin Mushir al-Dimashqi. Important point: A marfu' report states that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called Ubayy bin Ka'b "Sayyid al-Ansar" (the chief of the Ansar). Ibn Asakir recorded it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (7/ 335) and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Muntaqa min Masmu'at Marw" (770) from the hadith of Amr bin al-As, but its chain is "da'if" (weak). Important point: As for calling Ubayy bin Ka'b "Sayyid al-Muslimin" (the chief of the Muslims), it is narrated as a statement of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), as Ibn Sa'd (3/ 463), al-Bukhari in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (476) and others recorded from him, with a chain that can possibly be graded "hasan". Reference / Source: Likewise it is narrated from Utayy al-Sa'di, who said: I came to Madinah on a day of wind and dust, and saw the people surging into one another (crowding). They said: Are you not from this town? I said: No. They said: Today the chief of the Muslims, Ubayy bin Ka'b, has died. Ibn Sa'd (3/ 465) and Ibn Asakir (7/ 340) recorded it, and its chain is "sahih".
