It is narrated from Ibn Shihab that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished with the Battle of the Confederates (al-Ahzab), and Khalid bin al-Walid was staying at the place of al-Ahzab, he sent word to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of his acceptance of Islam.

Explanation & Benefits

(5377). Grading: (1) This chain, even though its narrators are acceptable, is "mursal", and it is also "munkar" (objectionable). Technical note / Defect ('illah): For it is established that Khalid bin al-Walid was in command of the cavalry of the polytheists on the day of al-Hudaybiyah (as in the hadith of the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyah in al-Bukhari, 2731, and others). And al-Hudaybiyah took place after (the Battle of) al-Ahzab, so he did not accept Islam until after al-Hudaybiyah. Important point: Moreover, the correct account is that Khalid bin al-Walid came himself to Madinah, together with Amr bin al-As, shortly before the conquest of Makkah, and they both accepted Islam, as will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (5377). Note / Clarification: "al-Layth" refers to: Ibn Sa'd, "Uqayl" refers to: Ibn Khalid al-Ayli, and "Ibn Shihab" refers to: Muhammad bin Muslim al-Zuhri.
