Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri said: Sa'id bin Amir bin Hidhyam bin Salaman bin Rabi'ah bin Sa'd bin Jumah (may Allah be pleased with him) was an illustrious Companion. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed him commander (governor) over some of the army districts of al-Sham, and he died there in the year 20 AH while still in office.

21/ 165. Reference / Source: (1) It is in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" of Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi after (976), from Mus'ab al-Zubayri, mentioning the name and lineage of Sa'id bin Amir but not his governorship or his death. Then al-Baghawi mentioned from Ibn Ishaq (977) that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed him as governor over part of Syria (al-Sham), and the report that follows indicates this. Important point: Mus'ab's statement that Sa'id bin Amir died in the year 20 AH is corroborated by "Muhammad bin Umar al-Waqidi", as in "al-Tabaqat al-Kubra" of Ibn Sa'd (9/ 403). There is a difference of opinion about it, which can be seen in "Tarikh Dimashq" of Ibn Asakir (21/ 165).
