Abd al-Rahman bin Ghanm narrates that when the plague broke out in Syria, Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us and said: "This plague is a filth (an impurity), so flee from it into the valleys and mountain passes." When this reached Shurahbil bin Hasanah, he said: "Amr has spoken wrongly. I was in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while Amr was more ignorant than his family's camel. Rather, (the truth is that) it is a mercy from your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the manner of death of the righteous before you."
