(1). It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Bakr that (after the Pledge of Aqabah) the polytheists seized Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), tied his hands to his neck, and brought him into Makkah beating him. They were dragging him by the hair of his forelock, and his hair was quite long.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (sound through supporting reports), and the narrators of this chain are thiqah, but it is "mursal". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Since al-Waqidi has also narrated the like of it through other chains, it is possible to grade this report hasan (if Allah wills). "'Abdullah bin Abi Bakr" (in the chain) refers to "Ibn Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Hazm". Reference / Source: Ibn Hisham recorded it in "al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah" [1/448-449] from Ziyad bin 'Abdullah al-Bakka'i, and al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" [2/367] via Salamah bin al-Fadl al-Abrash. Both of them (Ziyad and Salamah) narrate it from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from 'Abdullah bin Abi Bakr. He mentioned it within the story of the Second Pledge of 'Aqabah. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (as a shahid) by what Ibn Sa'd narrated in "al-Tabaqat" [1/188-190] from Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi with several chains of his, and he too mentioned the like of it in the story of the Second Pledge of 'Aqabah.
