It is narrated from Sayyiduna Urwah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Qutbah bin Amir bin Hadidah (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he is the Companion concerning whom this verse was revealed: "And it is not righteousness that you enter houses from their backs" [Surah al-Baqarah: 189]. Also, his brother is Yazid bin Amir bin Hadidah, whose kunyah was Abu al-Mundhir.

Explanation & Benefits

(5760). Grading: (1) Its narrators are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim), as was explained at number (4378), although the narration is "mursal". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr's statement that Qutbah bin 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in Badr is supported by Imam al-Zuhri (Ibn Abi 'Asim 1824), al-Baghawi ("Mu'jam al-Sahabah" 5/66) and Abu Nu'aym (5760). 1/ 699. Reference / Source: Ibn Ishaq too counted him among those who took part in Badr, in "Sirat Ibn Hisham" (1/699). Reference / Source: Al-Waqidi mentioned in "al-Maghazi" (1/140) that he took part in Badr and took Malik bin 'Abd Allah (bin 'Uthman) al-Taymi captive there. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: For the details of the relevant verse of Surat al-Baqarah being revealed concerning Qutbah bin 'Amir, see the hadith of Jabir (number 1856), whose chain is "qawi" (strong). 6/ 51. Reference / Source: A similar narration is reported from al-Zuhri by a "mursal" route with al-Tabari (2/187), al-Jassas and others, in which instead of the name "a man of the Ansar from Banu Salimah" is mentioned; and according to al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar ("Fath al-Bari" 6/51), Qutbah (may Allah be pleased with him) was indeed from Banu Salimah.
