Mustadrak al-Hakim 5020 — Virtues of Zayd bin Harithah: whenever

حدثني علي بن عيسى، حَدَّثَنَا إبراهيم بن أبي طالب، حَدَّثَنَا ابن أبي عُمر، حَدَّثَنَا سفيان، عن إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، عن قيس بن أبي حازم، قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "لا تَلُومُونا على حُبِّ زَيدٍ"؛ يعني: ابنَ حارثةَ (1).

It is narrated from Qays bin Abi Hazim that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not blame us for loving Zayd (bin Harithah)."

قال إسماعيلُ: وسمعتُ الشعبي يقول: ما بَعَثَ رسولُ الله ﷺ سَريّةً قَطُّ وفيهم زيدُ بنُ حارثة إِلَّا أَمَّرَه عليهم (2).

It is narrated from Imam al-Sha'bi; he said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out a sariyyah (military expedition) and Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) was among them, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would appoint him, and none other, as their commander.

Grading: (1) Its chain is "mursal sahih". Qays bin Abi Hazim is one of the senior Successors and a "mukhadram" (one who lived in both the Jahiliyyah and Islam).
