It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Badr the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned to Sayyiduna Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) (despite his absence) a share of the spoils of war and a reward.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: (3) This report is "munkar". There is disagreement in it from 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Muhammad al-Darawardi: with the author, Abu Thabit Muhammad bin 'Ubaydullah narrated it from him as "mawsul", whereas Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri [al-Harith bin Abi Usamah, as cited in "Bughyat al-Bahith": (684)] and Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi ["al-Maghazi": 1/ 153] went against him (and these two are imams of the Sirah and the Maghazi); both of them narrated it from 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Darawardi > Ja'far bin Muhammad (al-Sadiq) > his father as "mursal". It appears that the "mursal" form is the more likely (ashbah), especially since al-Waqidi mentioned that none of the others who narrated (the story of) Badr mentioned this report except al-Darawardi, and Allah knows best. (2502). Important point / Research: We say: what is correct is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions who came from Abyssinia (including Abu Musa al-Ash'ari and his companions) a share from the spoils of "the conquest of Khaybar", because they met him (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time of the conquest of Khaybar, as is in the hadith of Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) himself in Sahih al-Bukhari (3136) and (4230) and Sahih Muslim (2502).
