This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this word was corrupted into "al-fu'ad"; we have corrected it from the sources that recorded this report from Hammad bin Zayd > 'Abdullah bin al-Mukhtar.
11/ 149! Grading: (2) Its narrators are "la ba'sa bihim", except that Hammad bin Salamah has been contradicted in making this narration "connected". He was contradicted by Hammad bin Zayd, who is more precise (adbat) in narration than him, with Ibn Sa'd ["al-Tabaqat": 4/ 36] and Ibn Abi al-Dunya ["al-Hawatif": (11)]; he narrated it from 'Abdullah bin al-Mukhtar > the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as "mu'dal". Important point: Despite this, Ibn Hajar declared the chain of Hammad bin Salamah strong in "Fath al-Bari": 11/ 149! Details of the narration: Something like it has passed from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) through another route under number (4999), which does not mention the dyeing of the two wings with blood (khidab al-janahayn bi al-dam), and that is what is "preserved" (mahfuz).
