It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), concerning the story of the daughter of Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him), that Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have the greater right to her (the girl), because her maternal aunt is married to me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ja'far, you resemble me both in appearance and in character, and you are from the (family) tree from which I am." Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am pleased (and happy) with this." Then, announcing his decision to hand the girl over to Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I decide the case of this girl in favor of Ja'far, because her maternal aunt is with him, and in fact the maternal aunt stands in the place of the mother." For this reason Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there is no one on the face of the earth more beloved to me than Ja'far bin Abi Talib, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said about him: "You resemble me in appearance and in character."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but they (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is "sahih", except for the statement of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) at its end, which in this route occurs only with the author. The narrators of this chain are "la ba'sa bihim", Technical note / Defect ('illah): but there is disagreement over it on 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Muhammad (al-Darawardi). Ibrahim bin Hamzah and a group narrated it as the author has it, whereas Abu 'Amir al-'Aqadi ('Abd al-Malik bin 'Amr) went against them [in Abu Dawud (2278) and elsewhere]. He narrated it from al-Darawardi > Yazid bin al-Had > Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Taymi > Nafi' bin 'Ujayr > his father ('Ujayr bin 'Abd Yazid) > 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Thus he made it Nafi''s narration from his father and added Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Taymi to the chain. Al-Bayhaqi 8/ 6 declared sahih the narration of Ibrahim bin Hamzah and those who followed him ('an al-Darawardi > 'an Ibn al-Had > 'an Muhammad bin Nafi' > 'an his father > 'an 'Ali). But al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar raised the possibility in "al-Nukat al-Ziraf": (10240) that the original narration of Ibrahim bin Hamzah perhaps had "'an Muhammad, 'an Nafi'", which would agree with the narration of Abu 'Amir al-'Aqadi. We say: an objection to this is that Bakr bin Mudar narrated it in al-Tahawi's "Sharh al-Mushkil": (3082) from Ibn al-Had > Muhammad bin Nafi' bin 'Ujayr > 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him); so he made it the narration of Muhammad bin Nafi' bin 'Ujayr, but did not mention his father in the chain; rather, he mentioned Muhammad bin Nafi' narrating directly from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Technical note / Defect ('illah): So it seems that the disagreement that occurred in the chain of this hadith comes from Ibn al-Had, not from al-Darawardi. This is strengthened by the fact that Ibn al-Had narrated a similar hadith in al-Tahawi (3084) from Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Taymi > Abu Salamah > Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). It seems that Ibn al-Had was at times inconsistent (idtirab) in it, and perhaps the hadith of Abu Hurayrah and the hadith of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) became mixed up for him; that is why he also mentions Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Taymi in the hadith of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), whereas he actually belongs to the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). And Allah the Exalted knows best. Details of the narration: In any case, this hadith has another "sahih route" from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), which has passed under number (4664), but it does not contain the statement of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Details of the narration: Here the author has abridged the narration of Muhammad bin Nafi' bin 'Ujayr and confined himself to what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) and his ruling in his favour regarding the daughter of Hamzah, although the original story is lengthy and mentions the dispute between Ja'far, 'Ali and Zayd bin Harithah concerning the daughter of Hamzah. Reference / Source: From it, the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) (without the rest) was recorded by al-Nasa'i (8404) through the route of Ibn Abi 'Umar and Abu Marwan Muhammad bin 'Uthman bin Khalid > 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Darawardi > Ibn al-Had > Muhammad bin Nafi' bin 'Ujayr > his father > 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Details of the narration: In the narration of Muhammad bin Nafi' bin 'Ujayr from his father there are a few additions which are not in the other narration (number 4664), and that other narration also contains some things that are not here.
