Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4990

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the bier of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was carried, the hypocrites began to say: How light his bier is! And that is only because of the (harsh) judgment he gave concerning Banu Qurayzah. When this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather the angels were carrying his bier."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "sahih". Abu Musa is Muhammad bin al-Muthanna al-Zamin, and Muhammad bin Yahya is al-Dhuhli.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3849) recorded it from 'Abd bin Humayd, from 'Abd al-Razzaq, with this same chain, and said: "This hadith is hasan sahih gharib".
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (7032) recorded it through the route of Muhammad bin Sawa' > Shu'bah > Qatadah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But with Diya' al-Din al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah": 7/ (2414) it comes through another route via "Muhammad bin Sawa' > Sa'id > Qatadah" (Sa'id is mentioned in place of Shu'bah). Al-Diya', after referring to Ibn Hibban's narration, said: "Allah knows best which is correct, Sa'id or Shu'bah".
