رُؤْيَا النَّبِيِّ شَهَادَةَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ عِتْرَتِهِ فَاسْتُشْهِدَ حَمْزَةُ
The dream of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that a man of his family would be martyred, and Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred

حدثنا علي بن حَمَشاذَ، حدثنا أبو المثنَّى، حدثنا عبد الواحد بن غِياث، حدثنا حماد بن سَلَمة، عن علي بن زيد، عن أنس بن مالك: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ رأى فيما يرى النائمُ، قال: "رأيتُ كأني مُردِفٌ كبشًا، وكأنَّ ظُبَةَ سيفي انكسرتْ فأوَّلتُ أن أَقتُل كبشَ القَومِ، وأوَّلتُ أنَّ ظُبَة سيفي رجلٌ من عِتْرَتي". فقُتل حمزةُ، وقَتل رسولُ الله ﷺ طلحةَ، وكان صاحبَ اللِّواء (1) (2).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw in a dream and said: "I saw as though I had a ram riding behind me, and as though the edge (tip) of my sword had broken. I interpreted it to mean that I would kill the chief of the enemy, and I interpreted the breaking of the edge of the sword to mean that a man from my family (would be martyred)." So Sayyiduna Hamzah was martyred, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) killed Talhah, the standard-bearer of the polytheists.

Note / Clarification: (1) We have established this text from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" and the sources of takhrij, whereas our manuscripts have the words "sahib al-qawl".
(2) إسناده ضعيف لضعف علي بن زيد - وهو ابن جُدعان - لكن روي مثلُ هذه الرؤيا عن ابن عبّاس كما تقدَّم عند المصنّف برقم (2620) بإسناد حسن غير أنه لم يُسمِّ فيها حمزة ولا طلحة، وإنما قال: "ورأيت أن سيفي ذا الفقار فُلَّ فأوَّلتُه فَلًّا فيكم" فجعلها عامّةً وليس بخصوص حمزة.
Grading: (2) Its chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of 'Ali bin Zayd (Ibn Jud'an).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: But a similar dream is also narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), which has passed with the author at no. (2620) with a "hasan chain"; but in it he did not name Hamzah or Talhah, rather he said: "I saw that my sword Dhu al-Faqar was notched, and I interpreted it as a defeat (loss) among you." So he kept it general and did not make it specific to Hamzah.
وأخرجه أحمد 21 / (13825) عن عفان، عن حماد بن حماد بن سلمة به.

وطلحة صاحب اللواء: هو طلحة بن أبي طلحة العَبْدري.
Technical note / Narrator identification: Talhah "the bearer of the banner" (mentioned in the narration) is Talhah bin Abi Talhah al-'Abdari.
والظُّبة: حدُّ السيف.
Technical note / Lexicon: "Al-zubah" means the edge of the sword.
