Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4931

It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri that he said: Ja'dah bin Hubayrah bin Abi Wahb, whose mother was Umm Hani' bint Abi Talib; Hubayrah had married her, and it was Hubayrah who composed these verses about her (Umm Hani') when she accepted Islam: "Has the memory of Hind made you restless, that her request has distanced you? Such are the causes of separation and partings. In a lofty fortress in Najran, her image wanders by night after sleep. So if you have followed the religion of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the ties of kinship between you (and us) have been cut off, then go to some lofty, inaccessible peak which none can reach." Mus'ab said: Ja'dah is the one who used to say with pride: "Who can boast over me by his maternal uncle, when my maternal uncles are Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), the most generous, and Aqil (may Allah be pleased with him)?" Mus'ab said: Hubayrah died in Najran in a state of shirk, while Ja'dah married his maternal cousin Umm al-Hasan bint Ali, and she bore him Abdullah bin Ja'dah, about whom it was said in Khurasan: "Were it not for Ibn Ja'dah, your Quhunduz and Khurasan would not have been conquered until the Trumpet is blown." Mus'ab said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed Ja'dah bin Hubayrah al-Makhzumi as governor of Khurasan; then he went to Iraq, after that he performed Hajj and died in Madinah, and he also narrated hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(1) تحرَّف في أصولنا الخطية إلى عليه، هكذا غير مُعجَم إلَّا في (ز) و (ب) فجاء بياء تحتانية، يعني عليه. والمثبت هو ما أطبقت عليه كتب التراجم والأنساب.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this word is distorted into "'alayh", written without dots except in manuscripts (Z) and (B), where it comes with a ya' dotted below, i.e. "'alayh". But we have kept in the text the word (name) on which the books of biographies (rijal) and genealogies agree.

(1) نآك، أي: بَعُدَ عنك.
Note / Clarification: (1) The word "na'aka" means: he went far from you.

(2) في (ز) و (ب): تلالها، بالتاء بدل القاف والقِلال: جمع قُلَّة، وهو رأس كل شيء وأعلاه.
Note / Clarification: (2) In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this word comes as "tilaluha" (with ta' instead of qaf), whereas the word "al-qilal" (in the text) is the plural of "qullah", meaning the peak and highest part of anything.
والتلال: جمع تَلّة، وهي كومة الرمل.
Note / Clarification: And "al-tilal" is the plural of "tallah", meaning a hillock or heap of sand.

(3) في (ز): ينأى، بالنون بدل الباء، وأُهملت في (ص) و (م)، والمثبت من (ع) و (ب)، وهو الأوجه لأنه من بأى عليه: إذا فَخَرَ.
Note / Clarification: (3) In manuscript (Z) this word comes as "yan'a" (with nun instead of ba'), and in manuscripts (S) and (M) it is left without dots; but we have kept in the text the word of manuscripts ('A) and (B), and that is more appropriate, because it derives from "ba'a 'alayh", meaning: when someone boasts over another.

(4) تحرَّف في أصولنا الخطية إلى: مهندركم. والقُهُنْدُزُ: بضم القاف والهاء وسكون النون والدال تُضَم وتفتح، وهو اسمٌ معرَّب، وهو مدينة من مدن العَجم، وقيل: هو اسمُ جنسٍ لكل حصنٍ في وسط المدينة العُظمى.
Note / Clarification: (4) In our manuscripts this word is distorted into "muhandirukum", whereas the correct word is "al-quhunduz" (with damma on the qaf and ha', sukun on the nun, and damma or fatha on the dal). It is an Arabized name of one of the cities of the non-Arab lands, and some said it is a generic name used for every fortress located in the middle of a large city.
