Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 492

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took off his sandals during the prayer, so the people behind him also took off their sandals. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What made you take off your sandals?" They said: "We saw you take them off, so we took ours off too." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Jibril informed me that there was filth on one of them, so I took them off for that reason. So do not take off your sandals (without cause)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the bracketed places were blank in two spots; we have completed them from the other takhrij sources.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (9972) from 'Ali bin 'Abd al-'Aziz and another narrator, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Bazzar (1570), al-Tahawi in "Ma'ani al-Athar" 1/ 511 and al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (5017) through various routes from Abu Ghassan Malik bin Isma'il. See also the previous discussion on this.

Grading: It is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but its own chain is da'if (weak) because of the weakness of Abu Hamzah Maymun al-A'war.
