It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to relieve himself, he would go far away.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. Its supporting report (shahid) is the hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts there is a blank space here, and apparently the name of his shaykh Ahmad bin Sahl al-Faqih al-Bukhari should be here, since the author (al-Hakim) narrates from Qays bin Unayf in this book only through him.
Grading: It is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin 'Amr (Ibn 'Alqamah bin Waqqas al-Laythi). Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 30/ (18171), Abu Dawud (1), Ibn Majah (331), al-Tirmidhi (20) and al-Nasa'i (16) through various routes from Muhammad bin 'Amr, with this same chain. Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi declared it "a hasan sahih hadith". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is supported by the one after it and by several other hadiths found in Ibn Majah and elsewhere; see their takhrij there. Note / Clarification: "Al-madhhab" is linguistically a noun of place (maf'al) derived from "dhahab" (going); it refers to the place one goes to relieve oneself.
