أخبرني أبو الحسن محمد بن عبد الله العُمري، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق الإمام، حدثنا أبو موسى، حدثنا محمد بن جعفر، حدثنا شعبة، قال: سمعت يزيد بن خُمَير يحدِّث أنه سمع عبد الرحمن بن جُبير بن نُفير يحدّث عن أبيه، قال: قلتُ للحسن بن عليّ: إنَّ الناس يقولون: إنك تريد الخلافة، فقال: قد كان جَماجِمُ العرب في يدي يُحاربون من حاربتُ، ويُسالمون من سالمتُ، تركتها ابتغاء وجه الله تعالى وحَقْنِ دماء أمةٍ محمدٍ ﷺ، ثم أبتَزُّها بأتياس أهل الحجاز؟! (1) هذا إسناد صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يخرجاه.

Abd al-Rahman bin Jubayr bin Nufayr narrates from his father that he said: I said to Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both): People are saying that you want the caliphate. He said: "The chiefs of the Arabs were in my hand; they would fight whomever I fought and make peace with whomever I made peace with. I gave it up seeking the pleasure of Allah Almighty and to spare the blood of the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Shall I then (now) seize it back by means of the billy-goats (i.e. the lowly men) of the people of the Hijaz?!"
This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading of the chain: This chain is "qawi" (strong). Abu Musa is "Muhammad bin al-Muthanna al-'Anazi".
وأخرجه أبو نعيم في "حلية الأولياء" 2/ 36 من طريق أحمد بن حنبل، عن محمد بن جعفر، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (2/ 36) by way of Ahmad bin Hanbal, from Muhammad bin Ja'far, with this chain.
وأخرجه ابن سعد في "الطبقات" 6/ 380، والبلاذُري في "أنساب الأشراف" 3/ 291 - 292، وبحشل في "تاريخ واسط" ص 112، وابن أبي حاتم في "العلل" (2575)، واللالكائي في "أصول الاعتقاد" (2797)، وابن عساكر 13/ 280 و 281 من طرق عن أبي داود الطيالسي، والدولابي في "الذرية الطاهرة" (110) من طريق عثمان بن جَبَلة، كلاهما عن شعبة، به.

Both of them (al-Tayalisi and 'Uthman) narrate it from Shu'bah, with this chain.
