It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, carrying Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) on his shoulders. A man met him and said: O boy, what an excellent mount you are riding! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And what an excellent rider he is!"
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi", and this chain is "layyin" (weak) because of Zam'ah bin Salih, for he is da'if, and he is alone in narrating it by this route, as al-Tirmidhi indicated.
Technical note / Inconsistency: Moreover, there is disagreement over him regarding the name of the Tabi'i: here, in the narration of Abu Sa'id 'Amr bin Muhammad al-'Anqazi from him, he named him "Tawus" (Ibn Kaysan al-Yamani), while Abu 'Amir al-'Aqadi narrated it from him and named him "'Ikrimah". This indicates that Zam'ah did not retain his chain accurately.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3784) narrated it by way of Abu 'Amir al-'Aqadi, from Zam'ah bin Salih, from Salamah bin Wahram, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas. Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "gharib"; we know it only by this route, and Zam'ah bin Salih has been declared weak by some of the hadith scholars on account of his memory.
Supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of al-Bara' bin 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), which is in al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (3987) with a "hasan" chain, as al-Haythami said in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" (9/ 182).
Supporting reports: Another supporting report is the hadith of 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), which is in the Musnad of al-Bazzar (293), Ibn 'Adi's "al-Kamil" (2/ 362) and Ibn 'Asakir's "Tarikh Dimashq" (14/ 162).
Defect: Its chain is da'if because one of its narrators, Muhammad bin 'Ubaydullah bin Abi Rafi', is da'if.
Supporting reports: It also has a "mursal" supporting report from Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin 'Ali al-Baqir, in Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 102).
Defect: But the narrator from him is Jabir bin Yazid al-Ju'fi, and he too is da'if.
