Sayyiduna Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kissed Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), hugged him to his chest and began to smell him. A man of the Ansar was sitting with him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Ansari said: I have a son who has grown up, yet I have never kissed him. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you think: if Allah has removed mercy from your heart, what fault is that of mine?"
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading of the chain: This chain is "hasan" because of Abu Sakhr (Humayd bin Ziyad). Reference: Ahmad bin Hanbal narrated it in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1356) from 'Abdullah bin Yazid al-Muqri', with this chain. Corroborations: On this topic there is also the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated by Ahmad (40/ 24291), al-Bukhari (5998), Muslim (2317) and others. However, in her hadith the man was a "Bedouin" (a desert Arab), and this is more fitting than his being one of the "Ansar" as occurs here in the hadith of al-Zubayr bin al-'Awwam. Supporting reports: It is supported (a shahid) by the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated by Ahmad (12/ 7121), al-Bukhari (5997) and Muslim (2318), in which the Bedouin is named "al-Aqra' bin Qays al-Tamimi".
