It is narrated from Sa'id bin Abi Sa'id al-Maqburi that he said: We were with Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) when Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them both) came and gave the greeting of peace. We returned his greeting, but Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not notice his arrival. We said to him: O Abu Hurayrah, this is Hasan bin Ali who has greeted us. So he hurried after him and said: "And upon you be peace, O my master." Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, he is a master (sayyid)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading of the chain: This chain is "da'if" because of Muhammad bin Salih al-Madini. Identifying the narrator and criticism: He is "Ibn Qays al-Azraq", not Ibn Dinar al-Tammar (even though both were described with the epithet al-Tammar). Abu Hatim al-Razi said of him (al-Azraq): "shaykh"; al-Daraqutni said: "matruk" (abandoned). Ibn Hibban's statement about him varies; he mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" and also in "al-Majruhin", and there he said: He is a shaykh who narrates munkar reports from well-known narrators; it is not permissible to use his report as proof when he is alone in narrating it. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (10008) narrated it from Ahmad bin Harb al-Mawsili, from Zayd bin al-Hubab, from Muhammad bin Salih al-Azraq, with this chain. (2704). Important point: The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) calling al-Hasan bin 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) a "sayyid" (leader) is authentically established through the hadith of Abu Bakrah al-Thaqafi, which will come with the author (al-Hakim) below at number (4869), and it is in al-Bukhari's "Sahih" (2704).
