Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4786

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fatimah is the leader of the women of the people of Paradise, except for Maryam bint Imran."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; however, Imam Muslim alone recorded the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): 'Khayru nisa'il-'alamin arba'' (The best of the women of the worlds are four).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (S) and (M) this name has been distorted into "al-Husayn".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The name of "Yazid bin Abi Ziyad" (who is al-Hashimi al-Kufi) had dropped out of our manuscripts. We have restored it from the author's book "Fada'il al-Zahra'", where he narrated this hadith with this same chain and Yazid bin Abi Ziyad is mentioned there. Likewise Ibn Abi Khaythamah recorded it in his "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (second part, 3324) via Malik bin Isma'il, from Mansur bin Abi al-Aswad, from Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, from Ibn Abi Nu'm; hence his mention in this chain is established.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name had been distorted into "Nu'aym" (in the diminutive form), whereas in al-Dhahabi's "al-Talkhis" it is in the correct form.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (sahih due to other reports), but this chain of it is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for this is the weakness of "Yazid bin Abi Ziyad" (al-Hashimi al-Kufi), who in old age began to accept prompting (talqin), and no one other than him narrated this hadith of Abu Sa'id about Fatimah from Ibn Abi Nu'm.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (18/ 11756) and al-Nasa'i (8461) narrated it via Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid, and Ahmad (11618) via Khalid bin 'Abd Allah al-Wasiti; both of them from Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, with this chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from the Mother of the Believers 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), found in al-Nasa'i (8308 and 8459) and Ibn Hibban (6952), and its chain is "hasan".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is also narrated from the Mother of the Believers Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), found in al-Tirmidhi (3873 and 3893) and al-Nasa'i (8460). Al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "hasan gharib".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam Muslim did not record this hadith; rather, he in his "Sahih" (2430) and al-Bukhari in his "Sahih" (3432) recorded the hadith of 'Ali bin Abi Talib from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The best of its women is Maryam bint 'Imran, and the best of its women is Khadijah bint Khuwaylid." This narration has passed with the author at (3879) and will come at (4907) and (6561).
