It is narrated from Jumay' bin Umayr that he said: I went with my mother to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and from behind the curtain I heard my mother asking her about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "You are asking me about a man of whom, by Allah, I know no man who was more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), nor any woman on the face of the earth more beloved to him (peace and blessings be upon him) than his wife (Sayyidah Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "Jumay' bin 'Umayr" is weak and munkar al-hadith. For this reason al-Dhahabi declared it defective in his "Talkhis" and said: "Jumay' is accused, and 'A'ishah never said this at all." (The editors say:) We say that Imam al-Tirmidhi graded it hasan, as will come. Note / Clarification: The name of Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani is Sulayman bin Abi Sulayman. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (8443) narrated it via 'Abd al-'Aziz bin al-Khattab from Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Raja'. Reference / Source: Also al-Nasa'i (8442) narrated it via 'Abd al-Malik bin Abi Ghaniyyah from Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani. Reference / Source: With the author this narration will come at no. (4799) via "Abu al-Jahhaf Dawud bin Abi 'Awf from Jumay'". Al-Tirmidhi (3874) recorded it via this route and reported this addition from some of its narrators: "i.e. from among his household." Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi said: This hadith is "hasan gharib". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also the hadith of Buraydah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come with the author at no. (4788), and its chain is hasan. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The mention of 'Ali alone (as most beloved), without Fatimah, is supported by the hadith of al-Nu'man bin Bashir in Musnad Ahmad (30/ 18421), al-Nasa'i (9110) and elsewhere. He said: Abu Bakr asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to enter and heard the voice of 'A'ishah raised, saying: "By Allah! I have come to know that 'Ali is more beloved to you than my father..." Then he mentioned the whole hadith. Its chain is hasan. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And the mention of Fatimah alone (as most beloved), without 'Ali, is supported by the hadith of 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) which is coming at no. (4789), that 'Umar said: "O Fatimah! I have not seen anyone more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than you..." But there is disagreement about its wording, which will be explained there. Important point: All these hadiths conflict with the hadith of 'Amr bin al-'As which will come with the author at (6889 and 6890) and which is in the "Sahihayn" (al-Bukhari and Muslim), that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Who among the people is most beloved to you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'A'ishah." I asked: From among the men? He said: "Her father (Abu Bakr)." Corroborating chains and supporting reports: They (the narrations about 'Ali and Fatimah) also conflict with what 'Abd Allah bin Shaqiq narrated (as has passed with the author at 4495); he said: I asked 'A'ishah: Which of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was most beloved to him? She said: Abu Bakr, then 'Umar, then Abu 'Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah. 11/ 44. General principle: But Imam al-Tahawi, after citing these apparently conflicting narrations in "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (13/ 328-329), said that there is no conflict between them. For 'Amr bin al-'As by his question meant people "other than the household (Ahl al-Bayt)", and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) understood what he meant, so he gave that answer. And 'A'ishah gave the answer that she felt in her heart, and the reality may have been otherwise; or 'A'ishah too (like 'Amr bin al-'As) may have meant the most beloved people other than the household. For further details see "Fath al-Bari" (11/ 44).
