Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "'Umar bin 'Ali" is not mentioned in our manuscripts, but in the author's book "Fada'il Fatimah" (20) this name is present with this same chain. The establishment of this name is also supported by the fact that all the hadith scholars who recorded this narration mentioned an intermediary between "al-Husayn bin Zayd" and "Ja'far bin Muhammad". Then they differed in identifying this intermediary: some mentioned "'Umar bin 'Ali" (who is Ibn al-Husayn bin 'Ali), and some mentioned "'Ali bin 'Umar" (who is Ibn 'Ali bin al-Husayn bin 'Ali), and this (i.e. that it is 'Ali bin 'Umar) is more preponderant. Although direct narrations of al-Husayn bin Zayd from Ja'far bin Muhammad are also well known, he did not hear this particular report from Ja'far (rather, he heard it through an intermediary). And Allah knows best.
Grading: This hadith is munkar and its chain is da'if.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator "al-Husayn bin Zayd bin 'Ali" is weak, and munkar narrations occur in his hadiths. Moreover, "idtirab" (inconsistency) has occurred in the chain of this hadith. Imam al-Daraqutni mentioned in "al-'Ilal" (305) that narrators other than al-Husayn bin Zayd narrate it with the chain "Ja'far bin Muhammad from his father" as "mursal", and al-Daraqutni judged the mursal narration preponderant. (The editors say that) we have not come across this mursal narration to which al-Daraqutni alluded.
Reference / Source: This hadith is found with the author in "Fada'il Fatimah" (20) through Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin 'Ali bin Duhaym, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi 'Asim narrated it in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (2959) through 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin Salim.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Ya'la in his "Mu'jam" (220) (and via him Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" 2/ 351 and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 3/ 156). Also al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (182), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (355 and 7330) and "Fada'il al-Khulafa' al-Rashidin" (140), and Abu Tahir al-Silafi in "al-Mashyakhah al-Baghdadiyyah" (44) recorded it via Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah al-Hadrami. Both of them (Abu Ya'la and al-Hadrami) narrate from 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin Salim, from al-Husayn bin Zayd bin 'Ali, from "'Ali bin 'Umar bin 'Ali", from Ja'far bin Muhammad.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Here they mentioned "'Ali bin 'Umar" (the son) in place of "'Umar bin 'Ali" (the father). Likewise Abu Zur'ah al-Razi (as Abu al-Qasim al-Rafi'i reported in "al-Tadwin fi Akhbar Qazwin" 3/ 11) also narrated it from 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin Salim, i.e. with mention of "'Ali bin 'Umar" and not his father.
Details of the narration: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Kabir" (22/ 1001) through Bishr bin Musa and Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah al-Hadrami. In the printed edition, "al-Husayn bin Zayd" and "'Ali bin 'Umar" are mentioned here jointly (maqrun) (as though both narrate from Ja'far).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yet it has already passed from al-Tabarani himself, through Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah al-Hadrami, that this is the narration of "al-Husayn bin Zayd from 'Ali bin 'Umar" (i.e. al-Husayn narrates from 'Ali), so 'Ali bin 'Umar is al-Husayn's teacher, not his co-narrator. Perhaps a distortion (error) has occurred in the printed edition of al-Tabarani at the second place. If this is established, then the narration of Bishr bin Musa is just like that of Abu Ya'la and al-Hadrami, i.e. it too mentions "'Ali bin 'Umar" and not "'Umar bin 'Ali".
