Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4782

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that the daughter of Hubayrah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and on her hand were large gold rings or gold finger-rings. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began striking her hand. So she went to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and complained to her about what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had done. Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), and I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). She took off a gold chain from her neck and said: "This was given to me as a gift by Abu Hasan (Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) entered while the chain was in her hand, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Fatimah, would it please you that people should say that the daughter of Muhammad has a chain of fire in her hand?!" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out without sitting down. So Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) at once bought a slave in exchange for that chain and set him free. When this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All praise is for Allah, who has saved Fatimah from the Fire."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
