Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 478

Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father (Urwah) that Marwan told him, on the authority of Busrah bint Safwan (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you touches his private part, let him perform ablution." Urwah (at first) rejected this, then went and asked Busrah himself, and she confirmed what Marwan had said.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The part between the brackets was blank in the manuscripts; we have completed it from al-Bayhaqi's "al-Sunan al-Kubra" 1/ 129, where he recorded it from Imam al-Hakim with his chain and text.
Reference / Source: In its place, the printed edition of "al-Mustadrak" has the words: "Whoever touches his private part should perform wudu'. 'Urwah said: Then I asked Busrah."

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban recorded it at (1113) through Khalid bin 'Abd al-Malik al-Harrani, from Shu'ayb bin Ishaq, with this same chain.
