Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Or you have touched women" [Surah al-Nisa: 43]: What is meant by it is an act short of intercourse, and such touching makes ablution necessary.

Grading: This report (narration) is sahih and there is no harm in its narrators, except that it is "mursal". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bayhaqi said in "al-Khilafiyyat" (after 429) that Abu 'Ubaydah (bin 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud) did not hear from his father. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Bayhaqi further says that we have also narrated it with another sahih and "mawsul" (connected) chain, which he presented at (430) through Shu'bah from Mukhariq al-Ahmasi from Tariq bin Shihab from 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
