Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name appears as "bin Yahya", whereas in al-Hakim's "Tarikh Naysabur" (as in its "Talkhis" by al-Khalifah al-Naysaburi, p. 98) it is "Muhammad" in place of Yahya, and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar also mentioned it thus in "Lisan al-Mizan" (6/ 510). So perhaps "Yahya" here is a corruption of "Muhammad". And Allah knows best.
Technical note / Identification of the narrator: Here this narrator appears with a nisbah, although the author himself, writing his biography in "Tarikh Naysabur" (as in its "Talkhis" by al-Khalifah al-Naysaburi, p. 36), did not give him a nisbah, and neither did al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in "Tarikh Baghdad" (15/ 179-180). He is "al-Musayyab bin Zuhayr bin Muslim, Abu Muslim al-Tajir al-Baghdadi", who settled and lived in Naysabur and died there in 285 AH (his status was explained under hadith 1438). Perhaps - and Allah knows best - al-Hakim confused him with his namesake "al-Musayyab bin Zuhayr bin 'Amr, Abu Muslim al-Dabbi", but the latter was one of the men of the Abbasid state, who governed Khurasan in the days of al-Mahdi and died at Mina in 175 AH.
Grading: Its chain is utterly weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author's shaykh "Abu Bakr al-Ghazi" was criticized by the author himself (as Ibn Hajar quoted in "al-Lisan"): "He narrated hadiths in which he was not corroborated, and he was not well regarded among our colleagues." As for "al-Mas'udi" (whose name is Abd al-Rahman bin Abd Allah bin 'Utbah), he had become confused (ikhtilat), and 'Asim bin Ali (Ibn 'Asim al-Wasiti) heard from him after his confusion, as Ahmad bin Hanbal stated explicitly. Moreover, 'Asim himself is disputed and has munkar reports, and he is alone in narrating this report from al-Mas'udi. See also what comes before it.
