Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4724

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I went with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was ill, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were sitting with him. The two of them moved from their places and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat there. One of the two said to his companion: "I do not think that he (Ali) will survive this illness." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He (Ali) will never die except that he will be martyred, and he will not die until he has been filled with anger (against falsehood)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "wahin" (very weak), as al-Dhahabi said in his "Talkhis".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is because of Nasih bin Abd Allah, whose weakness is agreed upon, and who is "munkar al-hadith".
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "Akhbar Asbahan" (2/ 147) by way of Muhammad bin Yunus al-Kudaymi al-Sami, and Ibn 'Asakir (42/ 422) by way of Abu Ya'la Muhammad bin Shaddad al-Misma'i, both from Abd al-'Aziz bin al-Khattab, with this chain.
Grading: Al-Kudaymi and al-Misma'i are both "weak".
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir (42/ 536) and Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Mawdu'at" (749) recorded it by way of Isma'il bin Aban al-Warraq al-Kufi, from Nasih bin Abd Allah, from Simak bin Harb, from Anas bin Malik.
Details of the narration: In this narration Nasih named another shaykh, "Simak bin Harb".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Something similar is narrated from Anas through another route, in Ibn 'Asakir (42/ 422), by way of al-Harith bin Hasirah, from al-Qasim bin Jundub, from Anas.
Grading: The chain up to al-Harith is utterly "wahin" (very weak).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is likewise narrated from the hadith of 'Imran bin Husayn, in Ibn 'Asakir (42/ 422).
Grading: Its chain is "obscure" (muzlim).
