It is narrated from Abu Thabit, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), that: I was with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on the day of the Battle of the Camel. When I saw Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) standing (on the opposing side), the same misgiving arose in my heart that was arising in the hearts of the people in general. Then, at the time of the Zuhr prayer, Allah removed that doubt from me, and I fought alongside the Commander of the Believers. When the battle was over, I went to Madinah, presented myself before the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and said: By Allah, I have not come to ask for food or drink; rather, I am the freed slave of Abu Dharr. She said: Welcome. Then I told her my whole story, and she asked: Where were you when people's hearts were flying away? I said: I was where Allah removed that doubt from me at the time the sun passed its zenith. She said: You did very well. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Ali is with the Qur'an and the Qur'an is with Ali; the two will never separate from each other until they come to me at the Pond of Kawthar."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and Abu Sa'id al-Taymi is trustworthy and reliable, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "very weak" (da'if jiddan). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is Abu Sa'id al-Taymi Uqaysa, since only the author (al-Hakim) and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy, whereas the critical imams before them agreed on abandoning his hadith. Also, Abu Thabit the freedman of Abu Dharr is unknown (la yu'raf). Reference / Source: Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi narrated it in "Tarikh Baghdad" (volume 16, page 470), and through his route Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (volume 42, page 449), through the route of Abd al-Salam bin Salih, from Ali bin Hashim bin al-Barid, with this same chain, from Abu Thabit, who said: I went in to Umm Salamah and saw her weeping and remembering Ali, and she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Ali is with the truth and the truth is with Ali, and they will never part until they come to me at the Pond on the Day of Resurrection." Details of the narration: He too narrated it with the word "the truth" instead of "the Qur'an". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd al-Salam bin Salih is "Abu al-Salt", whom most hadith scholars declared weak, and Amr bin Talhah is in a far better condition than him. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Awsat" (4880) and "al-Saghir" (720) through the route of Salih bin Abi al-Aswad, from Hashim bin al-Barid, with this same chain, with the word "the Qur'an", like the narration of Amr bin Talhah al-Qannad.
