It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Shas al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the people of al-Hudaybiyah, that he said: We set out for Yemen with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and during that journey he treated me with some coldness, so much so that I felt (some resentment) in my heart. When I returned, I began complaining about him in the mosque, until this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He says: One morning I entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting among his Companions. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he fixed his gaze on me and stared at me. When I sat down, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Amr! By Allah, you have hurt me." I said: I seek refuge with Allah from hurting you, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes indeed; whoever hurts Ali has hurt me."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (3) This is how it is in the manuscripts, whereas the one known for narrating from Ibn Ishaq, and from whom Abu Zur'ah narrates, is his brother Ahmad, as in several places in this book; and there is no harm in either of them.
Note / Clarification: (4) The name appears like this in Ahmad's narration according to the manuscripts of his "Musnad"; the correct name is "Sinan", not "Yasar" (as in the sources of his biography).
Grading: (1) Its chain is weak because al-Fadl bin Ma'qil bin Sinan is unknown. Ibn Hibban in his "al-Thiqat" called him al-Fadl bin Abdullah bin Ma'qil bin Sinan, and said that whoever said al-Fadl bin Ma'qil attributed him to his grandfather. Ibn Ma'in said: the narration of Abdullah bin Niyar from Amr bin Shas is not connected; it does not seem that he saw Amr. 25/ (15960). Reference / Source: It is in "Musnad Ahmad" (25/15960). Reference / Source: Its marfu' part was narrated by Ibn Hibban (6923) from Mas'ud bin Sa'd from Muhammad bin Ishaq with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The marfu' part is supported by the hadith of Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, found in Ibn Abi Umar al-Adani, al-Baghandi, al-Bazzar, Abu Ya'la, al-Shashi, al-Ajurri, al-Qati'i, Ibn Asakir and Diya' al-Maqdisi. Its chain contains Qanan al-Nahmi, who is not very strong.
