أخبرني محمد بن أحمد بن تَميم القَنْطري، حدثنا أبو قِلابة الرَّقَاشي، حدثنا أبو عاصم، عن عبد الله بن المؤمَّل، حدثني أبو بكر بن عُبيد الله بن أبي مُليكة، عن أبيه، قال: جاء رجلٌ من أهل الشام فسَبّ عليًّا عند ابن عبّاس فحَصَبَه ابن عبّاس فقال: يا عدوَّ الله، آذيتَ رسولَ الله ﷺ، ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ لَعَنَهُمُ اللهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا﴾ [الأحزاب: 57]، لو كان رسولُ الله ﷺ (1) لآذيتَه (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد. ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Ubaydullah bin Abi Mulaykah that a man from the people of Sham came and reviled Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in the presence of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) pelted him with pebbles and said: "O enemy of Allah! You have hurt the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). (Allah Almighty says:) 'Indeed, those who hurt Allah and His Messenger, Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and has prepared for them a humiliating punishment' [Surah al-Ahzab: 57]. Had the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) been (alive), you would certainly have hurt him."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) زاد في المطبوع: حيًّا لآذيتَه.
Note / Clarification: (1) The printed edition has this addition: "hayyan la-adhaytahu" (had he been alive, you would have harmed him).
(2) إسناده ضعيف لضعف عبد الله بن المؤمَّل: وهو ابن وهب المخزومي. أبو عاصم هو الضحاك بن مخلد وأبو قِلابة الرَّقاشي: هو عبد الملك بن محمد.
Grading: (2) Its chain is weak because of the weakness of Abdullah bin al-Mu'ammal (Ibn Wahb al-Makhzumi). Abu Asim is al-Dahhak bin Makhlad, and Abu Qilabah al-Raqashi is Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad.
