(2). It is narrated from Amir bin Sharahil al-Sha'bi that when Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred and the pledge of allegiance was given to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed the people in Kufah and forbade them from fighting and from entering into the trial (fitnah). Thereupon Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) dismissed him from Dhu Qar and sent Ammar bin Yasir and al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them), who removed him from office and appointed Qarazah bin Ka'b as governor. He remained in office until Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) returned from Basrah; then on his return Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) dismissed him as well. And when he set out for Siffin, he appointed Uqbah bin Amr Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari as his deputy.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In the manuscripts this was corrupted to "Abi"; the correct reading is established from "Talkhis al-Dhahabi", and he is Abdullah bin Ayyash (known as al-Mantuf), whose kunyah is Abu al-Jarrah.
485 - 486. Grading: (2) Its chain is very weak because of al-Haytham bin Adi, since a number of the experts (the hadith critics) stated with certainty that he used to lie. Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, a report like this has also been narrated with better chains than this one. The best of them is what Umar bin Shabbah narrated (as in "Fath al-Bari" 23/114), and from him al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" (4/499), from Abu al-Hasan Ali bin Muhammad al-Mada'ini, from Bashir bin Asim, from Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, from his father. And al-Tabari in his "Tarikh" mentioned the story of Abu Musa with the people of Kufah and his calling (the people) to stay away from the fighting through several routes (see: 4/477, 481-482, 482-483 and 485-486).
