It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When water is equal to two large jars (qullatayn), it does not carry impurity (or he said: filth)."
The minor discrepancy in the narrators' names found in this narration does not affect the authenticity of this hadith, because the two Shaykhs used both al-Walid bin Kathir and Muhammad bin Ja'far as evidence, and Abu Usamah would sometimes name one and sometimes the other.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: This narration is found in Imam al-Shafi'i's book "al-Umm" 2/ 9 - 10 with this same chain. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Ma'rifat al-Sunan wa al-Athar" (1850) from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim and other hadith scholars, from Abu al-'Abbas Muhammad bin Ya'qub, with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bayhaqi says that the "thiqah" (trustworthy) narrator mentioned in this chain is Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah al-Kufi, since this hadith is well known through him. He adds: I have seen in some books indications that Imam al-Shafi'i took this narration from some of his companions, who took it from Abu Usamah.
Note / Clarification: The words "wa Muhammad bin Ja'far" had dropped out of the printed editions, and in our manuscripts a blank space was left in place of "Muhammad bin 'Abbad bin Ja'far". We have recorded it according to the Indian printed edition so that the wording reads correctly.
