Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts a blank space (empty gap) has been left before this point, and what indicates that something has dropped out (saqt) here is the presence of the conjunction (wa) at the start of the chain and the dual word "qala" (the two of them said) after "al-'Anbari".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts it is written here as "'Amr" (with the added waw), which is a clear error (the correct word is "'Umar").
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this chain there is a "wahm" (error) in the mention of Sa'id bin Masruq al-Thawri. It was narrated by Hassan bin Ibrahim, who, although saduq (truthful), would err and make mistakes in some of his narrations, and this narration is one of those mistakes. He narrated it sometimes through "Abu Sufyan from Abu Nadrah" and sometimes through "Sa'id bin Masruq (the father of Sufyan al-Thawri) from Abu Nadrah". "Abu Sufyan" here refers to Tarif bin Shihab, whose weakness is agreed upon; while Sa'id bin Masruq did not narrate anything from Abu Nadrah, as Imam al-Daraqutni stated explicitly in "al-'Ilal" 11/ 323 (2312).
Important point: More than one of the hadith masters (huffaz) have drawn attention to this error, among them al-Daraqutni, Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" 2/ 375, Ibn Hibban in "al-Majruhin" 1/ 381 and Ibn Hajar in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" 2/ 217, and Ibn Hajar pointed out the mistake of al-Hakim in declaring it sahih.
Reference / Source: The hadith of Abu 'Umar al-Darir (whose name is Hafs bin 'Umar al-Hawdi) was recorded by Imam al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (2390) and by al-Bayhaqi at 2/ 379 through Abu Muslim from him.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Hassan bin Ibrahim was corroborated by Habban bin Hilal (Ibn 'Adi, al-Kamil 2/ 375), and al-Azraq bin 'Ali also corroborated him (Ibn Hibban, al-Majruhin 1/ 381).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrators mentioned were contradicted by 'Ubayd Allah bin Muhammad al-'Ayshi (with Ibn 'Adi 2/ 375 and al-Bayhaqi 2/ 380) and Ishaq bin Abi Isra'il (with Abu Ya'la 1125); both of them narrated it from Hassan bin Ibrahim, from Abu Sufyan, from Abu Nadrah, and this is the "mahfuz" (preserved) route.
Details of the narration: A group of narrators reported it through Abu Sufyan (Tarif bin Shihab) from Abu Nadrah, among them 'Ali bin Mushir, Abu Mu'awiyah and Muhammad bin Fudayl. Through these routes the narration was recorded by Ibn Majah (276), al-Tirmidhi (238), Abu Ya'la (1077) and al-Daraqutni in "al-Sunan" (1356).
Reference / Source: The routes that the author (al-Hakim) will mention later: the route of Imam Abu Hanifah is in al-Daraqutni (1377) and al-Bayhaqi 2/ 380, the route of Hamzah al-Zayyat was recorded by al-'Uqayli in "al-Du'afa'" (712), and the route of Abu Malik al-Nakha'i by al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" 2/ 231-232.
Important point: According to Imam al-Tirmidhi, the most authentic and best narration on this topic is that of 'Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin 'Aqil from Muhammad Ibn al-Hanafiyyah from 'Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the like of it.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 2/ (1006, 1072), Ibn Majah (275) and al-Tirmidhi (3).
Grading: This chain is capable of reaching the grade of "hasan", and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared it hasan in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" 2/ 216.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: One supporting report for it is the narration of 'Abd Allah bin Zayd bin 'Asim al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), recorded by al-Ruyani in his "Musnad" (1011), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (7175) and al-Daraqutni in "al-Sunan" (1360).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain contains the narrator "al-Waqidi" (Muhammad bin 'Umar), whose reliability has been criticised.
