It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was besieged (in his house), he sought permission to speak. On that occasion Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Soon there will be tribulation and discord (or he said: discord and tribulation)." We said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then what do you command us to do at that time?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold fast to the leader (amir) and his companions," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this has been distorted into "Abu Hasanah", and the correct form is what we have established (i.e. Abu Habibah), in agreement with the sources of his biography and the other sources that record the report.
Note / Clarification: (2) In the manuscripts it is "wa-sta'dhantuhu", whereas the correct reading is that the one who sought his permission to speak was Abu Hurayrah.
(1248). Grading: (3) Its chain is "hasan", if Allah wills. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is "Abu Habibah" (the maternal grandfather of the Banu Uqbah), the freed slave of al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam. Besides the three narrators mentioned, Abu al-Aswad (Yatim Urwah) also narrated from him; al-Ijli declared him trustworthy, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", so his hadith is of the hasan grade. His biography is also found in Ibn Hajar's "Ta'jil al-Manfa'ah" (1248). Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (9457) via Affan bin Muslim, from Wuhayb bin Khalid, from Musa bin Uqbah alone, in the same way. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/50), and from him Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Sunnah" (1278), recorded it via Ibrahim bin Tahman; and Abbas al-Tarqufi in his "Juz'" (8) via Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad; both of them from Musa bin Uqbah alone, in the same way. Note / Clarification: This narration will come later with the author (al-Hakim) under no. (8540) via Musa bin Isma'il, from Wuhayb, from Musa bin Uqbah alone.
