It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) remained alive for three days after being wounded; then he passed away, and he was given the ritual bath (ghusl) and shrouded.

Grading: This report is sahih except for the mention that "Umar remained for three days after being stabbed", since Layth (Ibn Abi Sulaym) is alone in that, and he is "layyin al-hadith" (weak). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: However, he was corroborated on the mention of Umar's washing and shrouding by Malik in "al-Muwatta'" (2/463), Abd Allah bin Umar al-Umari with Abd al-Razzaq (9592), Musa bin Uqbah in Umar bin Shabbah's "Tarikh al-Madinah" (3/924), Ubayd Allah bin Umar al-Umari with Ibn Sa'd (3/339) and Ibn Abi Shaybah (3/254), Ibn Abi Layla with Ibn Abi Shaybah (3/254), and Abd Allah bin Dinar with Ibn Sa'd (3/339). Details of the narration: Malik, Abd Allah al-Umari, Abd Allah bin Dinar and Musa bin Uqbah added that the funeral prayer was also offered over Umar. All of them except Ubayd Allah added that he was a martyr. And Ubayd Allah added that he was also embalmed with perfume (hanut). 3/ 339. Reference / Source: This report was also narrated by Abd al-Rahman bin Abd Allah bin Dinar, from his father, from Ibn Umar, and he mentioned all of those additions. Ibn Sa'd (3/339) recorded it via him.
