Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4565

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both); he said: I came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when he had been wounded, and I said: "O Amir al-Mu'minin, receive the glad tidings of Paradise! You believed when people were disbelieving; you strove in jihad alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when people abandoned him (peace and blessings be upon him); then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while he was pleased with you; not even two people disagreed about your caliphate; and now you are being granted martyrdom." He said: "Repeat what you said." So I repeated those words. Then he said: "By Allah, besides whom there is no true deity, if I had all the gold and silver on the face of the earth, I would give it as a ransom to be saved from the terror that lies ahead (that is, death and the stages after it)."

Details of the narration: This (narration) is established from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) through more than one chain:
Grading: Among them is what Abd Allah bin Umar bin al-Khattab narrated similarly from Ibn Abbas, found with Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Sunnah" (1263), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (579) and "al-Kabir" (10623), and Ibn Asakir (44/441-442), with a hasan chain.
Reference / Source: Amr bin Maymun al-Awdi also narrated it similarly from Ibn Abbas, found with Umar bin Shabbah (3/934) and Ibn Asakir (44/428).
Reference / Source: A similar narration is in Sahih al-Bukhari (3692) via al-Miswar bin Makhramah, from Ibn Abbas.
Reference / Source: Also with Ahmad (1/322) and others via Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman al-Himyari, from Ibn Abbas, and its chain is sahih.
Note / Clarification: His words "hawl al-muttala'" (the terror of the place of overlooking) refer to the standing on the Day of Resurrection, or the matters of the Hereafter that one faces immediately after death. It is likened to the elevated spot (muttala') from which one looks down from a high place.
Note / Clarification: "Al-safra'" (the yellow) means gold, and "al-bayda'" (the white) means silver.
