It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one day Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him): O best of all people after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Take note! If you have said that, then (listen): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The sun has not risen upon any man better than Umar."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak because of the weakness of Abd Allah bin Dawud al-Wasiti and because Abd al-Rahman, the nephew of Ibn al-Munkadir, is majhul (unknown). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Uqayli said: He is not corroborated in his hadith, and he is known only through it. Al-Dhahabi said in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak": They declared Abd Allah weak, and Abd al-Rahman has been criticised, and the hadith resembles a fabricated one (mawdu'). Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi recorded it (3684) from Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, from Abd Allah bin Dawud al-Wasiti, with this chain. Grading: And he said: This hadith is gharib, and its chain is not that strong.
