Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (The phrase "ma rabaki") with damma on the ba' means: What is your need? Or with fatha on it, meaning: What has troubled you and driven you (to this)? See Ibn al-Athir's "al-Nihayah", root (r-y-b).
Grading: Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because of the weakness of Baqiyyah (Ibn al-Walid al-Himsi); moreover, he used to commit tadlis al-taswiyah and did not state explicit hearing here, and he was also inconsistent in it, as will be explained below. Al-Hasan bin Yusuf (known as Akhu al-Harsh) was narrated from by a group, but no criticism or commendation of him is reported. And concerning Muhammad bin Musa bin Hammad, al-Dhahabi said: Others are more precise than him, but he was one of the vessels of knowledge.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Asim recorded it in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (76), and via him Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (182), from Muhammad bin Musaffa and Amr bin Uthman, both of Hims, from Baqiyyah bin al-Walid, from Bahir bin Sa'd, from Khalid bin Ma'dan, who said: Abd Allah bin Umar narrated to me from Umar. Thus he mentioned "Abd Allah bin Umar" (in the chain) in place of Abd al-Rahman bin Jubayr bin Nufayr and his father.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (56) via Haywah bin Shurayh al-Himsi, from Baqiyyah bin al-Walid, from Bahir, from Khalid bin Ma'dan, from Abd al-Rahman bin Amr al-Sulami, that Umar's slave woman was presented to him. Thus he mentioned "Abd al-Rahman bin Amr al-Sulami" (in the chain) in place of Abd al-Rahman bin Jubayr and his father, and in place of Abd Allah bin Umar.
Details of the narration: It is authentically established from Umar bin al-Khattab that he did not dye his white hair, and he used to say: I do not like to change my light.
Reference / Source: Al-Tahawi recorded it in "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (3692), al-Tabarani in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (2259) and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" (129, 130), via Sulaym bin Amir (who is not al-Kala'i), from Umar, and its chain is hasan.
Details of the narration: It is also authentically established from him that he dyed it with henna and katam, as Anas bin Malik reported from him.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (19/11965 and 20/12635), Muslim (2341) and Abu Dawud (4209) recorded it.
Important point: We say: Reconciling the two narrations is easy. Sulaym bin Amir, who reported from Umar that he did not dye (his hair), is a senior mukhadram Successor who lived in the Jahiliyyah and emigrated in the time of Abu Bakr, so apparently he saw Umar doing so in the early period. Then later, when Umar's white hair increased, he decided to dye it, and that is what Anas bin Malik reported from him. Similar to this is what al-Tahawi said after recording this report: In our view (and Allah knows best) that is what he was upon at the beginning; then later he came to know that this does not prevent dyeing, so he dyed. We ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for success.
